Record or upload your greeting before we prepare and ship your phone so it arrives with your greeting already loaded. Loading it yourself with a computer is a last resort.
If your phone has already shipped, you can transfer the greeting using File Explorer on Windows or the OpenMTP file-transfer app for Mac. Updating your online greeting after shipment does not automatically update the physical phone.
If you do not record a custom greeting, the phone will use this generic greeting.
1. Record or upload your greeting
Record your greeting using these instructions, or upload a recorded greeting to LifeOnRecord.
To listen back to your online greeting:
2. Download the formatted greeting from LifeOnRecord
Visit Download introductory greeting, enter your invitation number, and download greeting.wav. Locate the file in your computer’s Downloads folder.
Use this specially formatted download. Do not copy an original recording from your computer directly to the phone, even if it is a WAV file. Renaming another audio file does not convert it to the required format.
3. Connect the phone
Connect the phone’s attached USB cable to your computer. If your computer only has USB-C ports, use a USB-A to USB-C adapter that supports data transfer.
4. Open the phone’s LifeOnRecord folder
- Windows: Press Windows + E to open File Explorer. Under This PC, open Teensy, then LifeOnRecord.
- Mac: Download and install OpenMTP, choosing the version for your Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel). Open the app, find the connected Teensy device, and open its LifeOnRecord folder. Use OpenMTP to transfer the file to the phone.
5. Replace only greeting.wav
Copy the downloaded greeting.wav into Teensy/LifeOnRecord, replacing the existing file with that exact name. If the app does not offer replacement, delete only the old greeting.wav in that folder, then copy the new one there. Wait until the transfer finishes.
The filename must be exactly greeting.wav. If repeated downloads added a number, such as greeting (1).wav, rename that downloaded file to greeting.wav. Do not add a second .wav extension.
Do not rename, delete, or edit any other phone files or folders. They connect the phone to your LifeOnRecord account and contain its recordings.
6. Reconnect and test
Disconnect the phone from the computer and reconnect it to its power source. Wait at least 15 seconds for it to start, then lift the handset and confirm that your new greeting and the beep play. If you still hear the old greeting, check that the transfer finished and the file is named greeting.wav in the correct folder.
If the phone does not appear or you need help, contact support@lifeonrecord.com before changing other files.
