Bring together the people who know them best.

Invite family and friends to share a memory, a laugh, or something they have always wanted to say. Messages can arrive without everyone gathering in one room or learning unfamiliar technology. Your account, called My Recordings, keeps them together while you decide the listening order and how to present the gift.

01

Invite

Bring together every chapter of their life

Share the number with siblings, childhood friends, former neighbors, coworkers, and distant family. A specific prompt is easier to answer than a blank request to say something nice.

02

Organize

See the birthday playlist take shape

Use My Recordings to see messages arrive, add useful titles, review transcripts, and choose the sequence. Follow up with missing contributors while keeping the gift private until the birthday.

03

Listen

Press play and let the room recognize every voice

Present the digital files, a Keepsake Speaker, or a personalized vinyl record. The gift is hearing one familiar voice after another say what this person has meant to them.

The organizer's view

You bring the people together. We make the gift easy to build.

My Recordings gives you a simple birthday playlist instead of a tangle of attachments. Play a recording, add a recognizable title, use the transcript to find a story, and move messages into an order that makes the first listen feel personal. Digital downloads come with the service, before you choose any physical keepsake.

  • Track individual contributions in one organized place
  • Use titles and transcripts to understand many recordings quickly
  • Arrange the listening order around eras, people, or emotional pacing
  • Download the finished digital audio and add a physical keepsake only if it fits

“I am the lucky recipient of receiving my LifeOnRecord for my 50th birthday. Around 100 people from all walks of life phoned in and shared memories and stories in their own voices. This is by far the best gift I have ever received. My husband and the friends who participated all mentioned how great the experience was and how easy it was to use.”

Help them tell the stories only they know.

Give people one or two concrete ideas, then let their personality do the rest.

01

Then

What were they like when you first met?

Ask for the first impression, the place, the year, and the detail that still makes the caller smile.

02

Always

What do they do that is unmistakably them?

Invite the sayings, songs, recipes, nicknames, and small acts of care that make this person recognizable.

03

Impact

When did they make a difference for you?

Describe a piece of advice, an unexpected kindness, or a hard day the recipient helped the caller through.

04

Next

What should they carry into the year ahead?

End with a wish, a challenge, a prediction, or a loving reminder for the year ahead.

Five colorful LifeOnRecord Keepsake Speakers arranged together

The birthday that started LifeOnRecord

It started with the stories our own family did not want to lose.

In 2006, Alaa and Mary were raising four young children and thinking about how much family life lived outside photographs. For his mother-in-law's 65th birthday, Alaa created a number for her children, grandchildren, husband, and friends to call. The family played the messages together in her living room. She loved them, the tears sparked more stories, and that first experiment became LifeOnRecord. The tools have changed, but the birthday idea remains simple: gather voices from across a life and let the person hear what they have meant to everyone.

  • A family birthday recording project was the first real LifeOnRecord experience
  • Founded in 2006 and still centered on the emotional power of the human voice
  • Designed for the people organizing the gift and the person receiving it

Choose how they will hear it for the first time.

Digital downloads are included, so the gift works without another purchase. When you want something physical for the first listen, choose the $49 Keepsake Speaker or $149 personalized vinyl record.

The moment the birthday person realizes who called.

The strongest reactions are rarely about having received another object. They come from recognizing a voice, hearing a forgotten story, and understanding how many people chose to take part.

“This past month we sat in my parents' living room and listened as friends and family wished my father a happy 80th birthday. It was one of the most touching birthday gifts he has ever received. You all are on to something here, and I intend to share your service with as many people as I can.”

Darcie Carr

“Just gave my Mom her LifeOnRecord for her 80th birthday. It has been the greatest gift I have ever given her. She cried and laughed and was genuinely touched. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show her how very much she is loved.”

Dianne Hansen

“I gave my dad a LifeOnRecord keepsake for his 80th birthday. Reconnecting with so many old friends and family members was a gift unto itself. After my dad passed away suddenly, the memories, stories, songs, and praises captured on the speaker became especially poignant and meaningful.”

Lisa Wasserman

“We used LifeOnRecord for my mother's 80th birthday. My Mum got loads of presents, but without a doubt this touched her the most. From hand chimes to memories from her twin brother and loving stories in between, we all remembered and laughed our way through her lifetime.”

Paul Timmins

Questions that come up while planning the gift.

Practical answers from the first invitation to the first listen.

Is it too late to order?

It may not be too late. Contributors can begin as soon as you purchase the service, although starting earlier gives more people time to think and respond. You can share the Playlist Page whenever it is ready; timing for an optional speaker or vinyl record is separate.

How do I invite people to contribute?

Share the dial-in and invitation numbers by text, email, or whatever method your group already uses. Include one or two specific prompts so people know what kind of memory, story, or birthday message to leave. A clear request usually feels easier to answer than simply asking everyone to say something nice.

How can people leave a recording?

Most contributors call the LifeOnRecord number, enter the invitation number, hear your greeting, and leave a message from their own phone. Supported WhatsApp voice messages, emailed audio, and uploads can also be added. These options let people participate from different places and in the way that feels most comfortable to them.

Can I keep the gift private while people are contributing?

Yes. Keep the My Recordings login with the people organizing the gift while messages are arriving and being arranged. Wait to send the Playlist Page link until you want the birthday person to listen; contributors do not need access to your account.

How do I organize a lot of messages?

My Recordings keeps the messages together so you can listen, add names and useful titles, and use transcripts to identify stories quickly. Move recordings into the order you want, and trim, trash, or restore an original when needed. You can then create a Playlist Page or download the audio when the birthday playlist feels complete.

How does the birthday person hear the finished playlist?

Send the recipient a Playlist Page link when you are ready for the first listen. It opens on any phone, tablet, or computer and plays the recordings one after another in the sequence you chose. They do not need your account login or a special app.

Can we play the playlist for a group?

Yes. Open the Playlist Page on a phone, tablet, or computer and connect that device to the sound system you plan to use. You can also play the included downloads or use an optional Keepsake Speaker or vinyl record if one suits the occasion.

Are digital downloads included?

Yes. Downloadable audio files are included with the $99 service, including options for individual recordings and a consolidated file. A physical keepsake is not required to hear, share, or save the voices.

What are the physical keepsake options?

The optional $49 Keepsake Speaker is a rechargeable, ready-to-play way to give and replay the recordings. The optional $149 vinyl pairs selected recordings with a personalized record and sleeve. Both are optional, so you can decide whether either presentation fits the recipient after you hear the messages.

Give them a birthday they can hear again.

Start with a few names from each chapter of their life, give people prompts worth answering, and let the birthday playlist grow one familiar voice at a time. The best part of the gift is the moment they hear how many people wanted to say something.

You will LOVE LifeOnRecord, or your money back.
